this item, as do so many, had me  swearing and raging.

Ok.. Maybe I bite easy?

I just have an aversion to Deceptive Marketing, whatever the product!

Especially when it comes from Multi billion Dollar Companies and their hired Spin flunkies, and it involves omitting data to Greenwash their filthy  industries.

Whilst managing to make the destruction, pollution, cruelty and disease they promulgate sound so innocent and unworthy of a better examination.

Who and what? got me riled up enough , once again to be having an online Dummy Spit?

The CAFO  PR  guys! thats who!

For an industry that has severe issues with both Ground and Underground water contamination, massive fuel and chemical usages, both In the lots and associated with the Foods used to bulk the  crowded and severely stressed animals they confine for at least 6mths, before slaughter.

This article shows just how they can omit, ignore and outright deceive the public, IF the public is uneducated as to the truth of the matter.

I hope to wake up some of the un informed among you, and tip the nod to those who are awake so they too can have a say and share the grim truth.

The beginning lines alone should be a wake up.

The environmental impact of intensive modern livestock production is much lower than many people assume, according to a paper presented at the 71st Cornell Nutrition Conference in Syracuse, NY.

The impact of high-intensity, large-scale livestock farming on the environment, particularly in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, has been in the spotlight in recent years, with estimates of agriculture’s contribution to total emissions ranging from 18 to 51 percent. As a result, there is an increasing ‘back-to-basics’ movement, calling for a reduction in meat consumption for the sake of the planet.

However, this latest paper claims that many of the animal-based foods that people intuitively consider to be more environmentally friendly, such as grass-fed beef, locally produced eggs and organic milk, could actually be more harmful than their corn-fed, remotely produced or conventional counterparts.

The paper, Demystifying the Environmental Sustainability of Food Production, argues that “attention should be focused on strategies that make a long-term, positive contribution to enhancing sustainability, rather than focusing on ‘quick-win’, low impact solutions.”

Sounds just wonderful hey??

I would love to meet this author..Long term positive contribution?

would that be to the longterm, Positive  damage from using massive amounts of groundwater to grow the high water, high  chemically dependant crops?

or to the long term positive damage from effluent ponds Nitrogen seeping into artesian water supplies?

or the long term positive damage to the rivers anywhere near a CAFO after the effluent ponds flood and spill in heavy rain/floods?

I would really like the author/s to explain how animals fed on pasture without stress, without chemical poisons, and  actually keeping dung beetles and worms alive to increase topsoil, water retention and stopping runoff, could possibly be called a  quick win??

Low impact, well yes it IS and thats the way it should be!

I call quick win (cheating) something like Vaccinating cattle against E-Coli Caused by feeding GM  Grains and un natural foods( try chicken farm floor litter, poop and all) and stress from overcrowding! I also consider mandatory antibiotics in feed as a Cheat! a false and very unwise way to shortcut true health care and responsibility for hygeine.

I would also like to know just how? Building massive sheds ,enclosures, and effluent ponds, roadways and massive grain silos is in any way shape or form..less environmentally impacting, than a simple paddock fence and trees for shelter around it?

And then there is the matter of Feed.

Natural pastures and what some people call weeds, are what the cows 4 stomachs are Designed by nature to digest, for maximum Bovine health and comfort.

Growing High water use, high cost GM Corn and soy , and all the energy use that entails, then adding transport to that? Especially as reports from Jeffrey Smith

Show damage to bowels and stomachs of animals eating Gm Grains and fodder stubble. There is also evidence of harm to soil bacteria from these crops, as well as a lot of “collateral damage ” to beneficial bugs and Non target species!

They now cost up to 135 an acre just to plant, and then to be used as animal food?

They are also a ONE time crop..wheas pasture grasses can be heavily grazed if done properly at least 3!! times before allowing them to go to seed and for NO COST! reseeding the land, in a natural cycle.

The more grazing a grass receives the stronger and deeper the roots grow, also enhancing the soils ability to hold water and building up the humus, unlike the fast grow, crop and  either bare soil, or a replant of the same unhealth crop a short time later.

Organic grain growers often add an understory crop of clover, which improves the soil again, and adds to the quality of the feed from crop stubbles and the understory, organic mixed farms also have NO fuel cost to transport the grains to the animals as they are on the spot. At worst a small distance to an onfarm silo for larger and longer storage for winter use.

Dr Jude Capper, assistant professor of dairy science at Washington State University, argues that focus should shift from impact per animal or per facility, to volume of meat or milk produced, compared to resources necessary for its production.

This!! above statement leads one to wonder what? the man is sniffing!

Of course.. shifting the focus from the LARGE cost to the environment, would be very helpful to them, as it would be a way to gloss over it entirely

How? I wonder is Volume produced, in any way a rational, or even honest way to account for the massive resource use..

It must be an accountants method, you know.. Lies , Damn Lies! and Statistics.

The authors point out that grass-fed cattle have an extra energy requirement for grazing activity, and that cattle fed on pasture grow more slowly – and have a lower weight at slaughter – than animals fed corn.

“Each day added to the finishing period adds an extra daily maintenance cost, which must be accounted for in the environmental impact of the final product,” they wrote.

Seeing as grass fed cattle can eat from first light to after dusk, and relax to chew their cuds , thereby utilising the feed they do ingest completely, this is ridiculous! I also dispute the lower weight comment, Locally here in Australia the grass fed beef  steers are Massive! well over 500kg, and this is  on sandy loams eating standard pasture grasses and cereal stubbles after harvest, nothing special at all. Our Cattlemen make good profits and our meat is prized for export.

In addition, they claim that animals raised on pasture-based diets produce more ruminal acetic acid, and therefore more methane.

The ruminal acetic acid is also what Kills pathogens like E-coli, and is hardly as polluting as the byproduct gasses from effluent ponds evaporating to the air, especially when Soil biota can break a cow pat down in less than 24 hours in health soils.

and the final piece of Idiocy!

the paper argues that there should be a shift away from a “naïve” view of linear miles from production to consumption, and rather look at the productivity of the transportation system. “As a result of high capacity cargo volumes in modern transportation systems, food can be efficiently moved over long distances and remain highly fuel efficient and thus environmentally friendly compared to locally-grown food”. However, the authors only examined fuel consumption, which they admit is only the “most basic of considerations that must be considered

If they added the cost of those massive trucks, refrigerators in them, wear and tear on Publicly funded roads, packaging and equipment needed to load and unload each shipment I strongly suspect it would rock the socks off many people.

There is no way that a local farmer, using an abbatoir within 100km radius, selling as sides to local butchers uses anywhere near the resources, and the meat is also far less likely to be contaminated from being blended with foriegn imports from Argentina,Canada etc which was the recent cause of Cargills Hamburger product nearly killing one poor lass, and making many severely ill.

What this boils down to is that the Locavores are making a dent in their filthy profits- and they are “massaging” the figures in a devious attempt to Greenwash their disgusting business practices.

So, continue to buy from a local farmer whenever you can, and use a butcher shop, rather than a stupormarket, so you can eat better and healthier and help send a continuing message to these lowlife multinationals

you may pay a little more, so be it! you can eat a little less of it, but still be better fed, in reality!

Now imagine you were told you couldnt grow a garden to feed your family in your own yard? or that a couple of rooms if not all bar one, of your home was being taken by the Government..for the good of all?

It appears other States are using that corrupt pile of toilet paper to enact similar Illegal sanctions elsewhere.

People who relied on Grain for food now have none as the land is used for wasteful GM biodiesel crops.

These same fools who say they do NOT support GM, are in truth (greenpeace I mean YOU!) allowing the GM lobbyists greater sway, simply by reducing the land available the food produced falls ..maths 101! If someone grabs an off apple, 99% of the time the weird sensing device we humans have, you know, Taste Buds! alert us to YUUUK!

And we all know just how badly off! a spud can be..Imagine a few of those getting by? Mouldy Tomatos are a hot item too,Strawberries can go off in an hour or so in the right conditions.

IF? Machinery is properly cleaned and sterilized between product runs…do we need a Warning, This food is produced on machinery that also handles….Nuts Gluten, seafood whatever???

NOT Conducive to me, to consider the company cleans up that often!

Once all crops are contaminated, and a lot of people are then buying from the Big AGGRO Agri combines, then they have you at their mercy re costs. and this!! is a classic example of it happening now.

The price of Glyphosate went up substantially a while back, so did their brands of fertilizers. Now, Glyphosates Patent has gone phht, and the price has, not surprisingly dropped:-) as other companies are now doing “generic” versions.

That is NOT a good thing, as being cheaper , simply means more people using it, and using More of it, as it costs less.

Now this rather LARGE Price Rise is a way to claw a tidy profit on the new  multi stacked seeds they are releasing

As a lot of this product ends up as stock or( I hope) more to bio fuel product, I am left very puzzled as why? so many traits are being added.

There is a push to fiddle the Omega Oils in Canola, so beware of the new healthy oils, they will NOT be healthy I suspect!

Insects rarely eat an entire corn cob for example, and animals arent as fussy if a nibble is out of a kernel of corn. Bt corn stubble has made animals that ate it either Ill or Dead, so silage is not an option either.

Anectotal evidence suggests however ,any other option to GM Feeds is eaten in preference to the GM ones by livestock that can choose in any way!

That also applies to Rodents. That! should be warning enough, if a rat or mouse won’t eat it…we shouldn’t either!

The latest Food problems I personally have come across are for NESTLE cookie doughs, Tollhouse was named, and a Milk Product Maker that supplied to Industries, NONE of which were named.

Nestle story took a while to get publicity ..funny that?

The second has been kept well quiet,  and there is a 2 YEARS worth of product they made and sold under recall. NOT a small volume of goods.

The simple fact is,that food is not meant to be handled in massive volumes, which coincidentally- immediately means a Massive contamination risk should a small volume be ‘OFF”..nor should it be treated, irradiated, or chemically saturated to “extend ” shelf life.

I don’t know about you, But, when I see,

processed on equipment that also processes shellfish, nuts,eggs, etc etc

I immediately think,WHY? do they need to warn us of this?

And my conclusion is that the washing down and hygeine in between “runs” cannot be thorough enough. And I really hate seeing that disclaimer when i am eating say, a biscuit, and wondering why? shellfish was handled in the same place to begin with!!

Let alone the possibility of ingredients coming from all over the world, being mixed and shipped back around the world, with all the associated chances of mishandling, are all Much more pertinent to the Safety issue. But completely ignored I see.

MRSA infected  Pork meat has been declared SAFE for you to buy, umm it is contaminated, it is raw, and it is handled before you cook it. oh boy, sure? it safe! Thanks FDA,EFSA,USDA, we all believe you, suuure we do. These same guys say its ok to wash chicken in BLEACH as part of the processing, which is why EU refuses USA chicken, oh, apart from antibiotic and chemical and GM feed issues.

Yeah, rules mean they have do SAFETY TRIALS! and cannot profit so quickly.

My best advice. If it comes in a packet, you should be avoiding it whenever possible. Buy meat at a butchers, and the grocer, for fruit and veg. Avoid all plastic containers and pick glass bottles where possible, and save them!

Learn to make jam and pickles it is very easy. Reuse those saved jars.

So? My question is WHY? they are taking it to Spain? to do the making? and also, WHY? Not making it in India, and exporting globally, as so many other Pharmas are now doing or using the Syngenta link?.

If you read their blurb they already HAD mobile plant capability, already had a plant in MEXICO ready to go….

SO?? WHY? Would they loose cash and a HUGE Publicity Grab for themselves?

( if they own make and market rather than..),

Contract it out, and go to an unrelated country to do their big Release  info spiel???

Could it possibly be.. and I care not if you think I am wrong, simply that if it has some “issues” and happens to not work, cause unexpected mutated issues, or outright kills a pile of people, the actual creators are a bit removed from legal issues?

Even so, there is mention of 15 to 30% drop in Northern climes, so whatever spurious claims they make now, (and NONE have ever been proven as to yield volume) the use of GM will do nothing much ,to, in fact, feed the world at all.

If our ozone level also stays as is, or increases too, I am wondering if thats just a handy cop out up their sleeves, after they have contaminated our croplands and it’s too late to stop it? Our farmers will be inured and brainwashed to buy their seed, all other Canola contaminated, the harvest may be about the same, and they STILL get the money every crop.

The main use is animal feed, think about this for a sec.

Until the Canadians started pushing canola.. it was a minor value “normal” crop, with nasty impurities that made it unsuitable for human use.

Massive chemical treatment made a cheap and nasty oil that could be marketed as saturated fat free, and THAT!! was a major selling point.

Really heavy marketing and lobbying,  convinced a big enough sector to create a market. and it was off and running, a lot like the Soy debacle.

The animals now get the highly chemically treated WASTE in their food, and this includes OUR PETS, not just farm animals !

And Biofuels is listed as the 3rd use. Now to be using it for that, at least one of the prior uses will be missing a supply.(ok thats a good thing

Canola is harvested when the plant is dry, so browsing by animals or using green plant waste for bio fuel is not a goer.

Aside from the minor detail that animals have dropped dead after browsing RR crops as well as Bt residues.

Consider a better way. a large paddock planted to graze for animals, self fertilized by them. can also support enough Olive trees as a perimeter shade and production plant, to not only reduce heat and cold stress on the herd, year round, but also be browsed for added nutrient by the animals, and help prevent soils being boggy or being blown away in high summer. And will produce the same volume of oil, better safer oil!! and edible waste that is NOT chemically tainted to process either. With NO chemicals needed, for well over 100 years, for the effort of ONE years work to plant them.

Sensible grazing would keep grasses at a level to protect soil.

If it is a milking herd the waste from the dairy would produce methane enough to power the dairy, free! Home made methane digesters have been used for decades too by many small farmers in USA. The technology is simple and can be done using all manner of reclaimed parts.

The above suggestion, solves oil animal feed and fuel uses and leaves the earth enriched!

The GM and Hi tech “solution??” leaves, Soil,Animal, Man  all three impoverished.

So read the scare story and consider how it being used to engender fear!!! and a fear invoked response to think we must??? look to science..

Canola is a futile and stupid time and energy wasting crop! It is a marketing mans creation, and could be, and should be! relegated back to the minor position in world farming that is truly deserves.

Peanut and sunflower, are two other options of note, Peanuts add nitrogen to soil and waste plants mulched in, help the soil. Sunflower also produces a better oil and can be browsed, also be mulched to protect the soils. You can effectively grow BOTH together quite well and there by gain 2X the harvest!

Oh and did you realise the processing cost is less??

Coldpressing and NO Chemicals, heat etc , a HUGE saving to the environment again!and the price paid is MUCH higher than canola too:-)

Strange, we used to use hessian, or burlap, a money crop for tropical peoples, where the plants grew wild. and became used to support many families -Organically and without chemical pollution, to grow and /or process! and natural, recyclable and lightweight for its strength and durability.

So- burlap/hessian etc, and the chip pine boxes.

They were a way to use the wood more thoroughly, when felling trees. got used for many things and made many a billy cart rabbit cage etc, and then became firewood.Many years later I add.

Even left to rot they were still! natural and biodegradeable.

Was not a part of how their manufacturing processes were run ,and continue to be regulated.

The use of plastic pallets containing the chemical decabromodiphenyl ether (Deca) that are used to ship, cool and store fruit and vegetables should be halted on safety grounds, a US environmental organisation has said.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has urged the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to outlaw use of plastic pallets made with Deca to transport food products because the substance may be leaching into food. The group said the substance, which is a flame retardant, is a known neurotoxin and a suspected carcinogen.

This statement should have you wondering!

If the pesticides inside the corn are NOT working anymore, as admitted here, they why? are they continuing to breed Bt into the GM Modified crops like Brinjal(eggplant) in India, and keep pushing it heavily right now!!

Moths pollinate night Flowering plants, if they get it wrong, then not only do we loose the Bee pollinated crops due to their efforts at chemical and GM tampering, they wipe out another class of plants and all the night life that feeds on these moths, and the other species, should it be wrong..as it so often has been in the past!

There IS a reason these Moths have become a plague, they were a nusiance before, Now, man and Pesticides and GM crops have enabled them to be in the ascendancy, I would suggest looking to why?

Rather than to treat the result, look to the reason!

However, as with Conventional Medicine, that!! would be just too logical. Prevention, rather than treat the symptoms.
